Reverend Monsignor H.E. Roach Scholarship Award

Scroll down to see our most recent winners from 2019.

This award was initially created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Brantford C.Y.O. Boys Basketball program. It was decided soon thereafter to make this an annual award. The program founders (Monsignor Roach & Paul Mitchell) started the program in 1956 and the program has been operating on a yearly basis since its inception. During the 2016/17 year, the program had 670 young athletes participate from the ages of 4-18. There is a weekly house league program and a rep program – The Brantford Hawks.

This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating student who will be attending a recognized post-secondary institution the following September. A financial award of $1,000.00 will be provided to the recipient.

Any student who participated in the C.Y.O. program for a minimum of six years is eligible to apply. Two of these years must be in a non-player position i.e. referee, skill sessions assistant, scorer, coach etc. This student has to be active within the C.Y.O. Boys program.

Applications must be received by the Brantford C.Y.O. Boys Basketball program by 11:59 p.m. on June 30 of the current season. Late applications will not be considered under any circumstances. The following items must be provided in order to be considered:

  • Resume including a detailed summary of involvement within the Boys Program;
  • The acceptance letter from the post-secondary institution the applicant will be attending;
  • A letter of support from the applicant’s high school principal;
  • A letter from the applicant outlining why he/she should be considered for the award;
  • A letter of support from an adult volunteer in the program (non family member) who can attest to the candidate’s involvement; and
  • The candidate’s complete transcript from his/her high school.

All applicants will receive a response from the organization by July 30th of the year in question. The award winner will receive their financial award the week prior to Labour Day and have his/her picture taken with an Executive Team member to celebrate this accomplishment. Every attempt will be made to have this photograph published in the Brantford Expositor and placed on the program’s website and other social media outlets.

If you have any question prior to your submission, please use the General Contact Form to reach President Brantford Boys CYO Houseleague Basketball Arthur Ryan with your questions or inquiries.
